Customizing your campaign
Advertising :: Customizing Your Campaign

On this CD you will find five folders, one for each solution area. Within each folder you will find View files and Printer files. The View files are provided so that you can review and print each execution using free Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 5.0 required). Once you have selected your campaign, you'll need to decide how to best customize it with your logo and content. High resolution files are located in the 'Printer' folder in each area.

Printer files require Quark (PC or Mac) to view and edit. The Acrobat view files cannot be edited and should not be used as base files for offset print, digital print, magazines or newspapers, as they are not high-resolution images even though they look fine on your screen.

The least expensive way of customizing these materials is to:
  • Print out the view file.

  • Make edits to the hard copy, or attach a separate Microsoft Word document with your changes.

  • Locate a high-resolution copy of your logo (Illustrator EPS file preferred, or high-resolution .tif file).

  • Email or visit your local full service copy center or printing company armed with the enclosed CD or printer files, your edits, and your high resolution logo. Almost every will have the software required to edit the print files saved on this diskette.

  • Once your edits, and logo and contact information are in place, the copy center will release the files to print (for direct mail) or films (for print).

Note: The attached files are set to average line screen and DPI specifications. A person versed in electronic production or pre-press should prepare the files for print to guarantee settings meet the requirements or your printer or publication.

Production Notes

All the items you will need to produce the Microsoft ads and postcards are included on this CD. The items included are: Quark Xpress 4.0 files, fonts, linking artwork, and a PDF for viewing - all files are provided in PC format.

In order to alter or edit the Quark file, you will need Quark Xpress 4.1. If you cannot gain access to this application, you can provide the files to a printer, graphic artist or copy center (Kinko's, etc.) for them to alter for you. Quark documents are named with a "QXD" suffix.

If you would like to view the file prior to printing and you do not have a copy of Quark Xpress, a PDF file has been provided for you to view. Please note that the PDF can be viewed but not altered. To view this file you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this application, download it for free at www.adobe.com/acrobat. PDF files are named with a "PDF" suffix. FOR OFFSET AND/OR DIGITAL PRINTING, PRINT FROM THE QUARK DOCUMENT, NOT THE PDF.

Franklin Gothic is Microsoft's corporate font and is used throughout all documents on this CD. This font is provided for your use(Download Font). We recommend using only the fonts provided.

All information placed inside the brackets (marked with [ ]) are placeholders indicating where you should insert your own information or artwork (company logo, address, services you provide, etc.). Please do not mistake these brackets for artwork - they should be deleted once you have customized the document for your use.

The postcards should be printed on 80# gloss text paper - please check with your local post office to make sure your paper will pass US Postal regulations.

Ad specifications will need to be obtained from newspaper and other printed publications before the ad can be submitted for printing. Required specifications are: ad size (height and column width), line screen, and dot gain. It is of the utmost importance that this information be acquired from the publication before the ad is printed to ensure the ad prints well.
